Decker Miles

Jazz in the Afternoon

My brother-in-law, Derek, was affectionately called "Decker", or "Deck", for short.

With his passing, too long ago, the world is a poorer place. is kindness was without limits. I owe him so much, and in that I'm not alone. He was like a second dad.

He was always singing - songs and artists from the '40's, and '50's - I think they called them 'crooners'.

Hence the shape and tone of this album and the dedication to the real Derek Miles. I think he would have liked it  - a mix of jazz and contemporary lounge music 'night club' style.

It's about a 'fictional Decker's' life on the road drifting from one small town to another, staying in cheap hotels and playing in small bars and clubs.

Derek - the real Decker - was happy with his lot in England, unlike this performer, whose audience seem to like his songs and his performances but what he really wants is to be discovered and play at Carnegie Hall or in Las Vegas.

Derek - Decker - was a generous spirit, so it seemed only right to make this download free for you to enjoy.

P.S. My dear sister Joan sings with Decker on Track 2. A devoted couple, they were a lesson to us all.
